Shining a light for Black History Month

Posted by Beth Pickard on

As part of Black History Month through October we’ve been shining a light on some of the inspirational historical figures who feature within our Phenomenal Women collection, over on our Instagram.

Talking Tables’ product developer Paris expanded on these inspiration figures to include a brand and person she admires:

"Boucleme is a sustainable plant-based haircare range for curly hair, supporting UK businesses that care about their supply chain and processes. Not only this but they use recycled and upcycled plastics and biodegradable ingredients and never test on animals.

"Michaela Coel is a multi award winning UK actor and screen writer. An individual who has inspired the nation with her screen writing and acting, and resonates with us some way or another. She is best known for Chewing Gum and I May Destroy You.

"There is also a great charity local to TT - Poetic Unity, based in Brixton which was founded in 2015. This charity provides support and services for young people aged 10-30 years.

"Their aim is to use poetry as a way of giving these young people voices through expression; enhancing their confidence, self-esteem and mental wellbeing. Poetic Unity also put on workshops and events whilst also visiting schools to give talks to bring communities together."

Talking Tables shall also be making a donation to Stockwell Good Neighbours – a charity put forward by our director of supply chain, Dan Fagan. This community-based charity supports elderly African Caribbean people, helping them to engage and take part in arts, health and wellbeing activities.
