Our Eco Journey: The Next Big Step

Posted by Beth Pickard on

Today is Earth Day - a day promoting clean living and a healthy, sustainable world. As you know we are pleased to have made substantial moves into becoming more sustainable and eco-friendly as a business, and we are now really excited to be on our journey to being a certified B Corporation, which means we are a business which meets the highest standards of environmental performance, amongst other things. B Corps form a community of leaders and drive a global movement of people using business as a force for good.
Talking Tables' Dan gives some more insight on BCorp and how we are progressing:
  • Tell us more about Bcorp?

The B Corp movement was founded in 2006, and there are now over 3500 certified B Corporations in more than 70 countries.

B Corp is a community of businesses that put their impact on their employees, customers and the planet at the forefront of everything they do.

With an ultimate goal to balance profit and purpose, using business as a force for good.

Becoming  B Corp certified involves a rigorous certification process, and businesses must achieve a minimum score across a range of areas.

  • Why is Talking Tables doing Bcorp?

As a business we have been on a journey of sustainability for several years now, and continue to challenge ourselves and innovate our product and packaging to reduce the impact we have on the environment.

B Corp felt like the natural next step.

B Corp provides us with a framework to have an holistic approach to sustainability. It will allow us continue the work we have started, and ensure all stakeholders are engaged and considered.

It will be great to be part of collective of like minded companies working towards common goals for good.

  • What have you learned so far on this journey?

Talking Tables have now completed the initial impact assessment stage, and I am very pleased with our initial benchmark score.

It has been reassuring that many of Talking Tables core values, and policies we have in place already have allowed us to meet some of the standards required by B Corp.

That said, there is still a lot of work to be done. I guess my biggest lesson so far is that B Corp is not easy to get, however this will make it even more meaningful once we are certified.

  • What are you most excited about for Talking Tables when we achieve BCorp status?

Being B Corp certified will of course be a huge sense of achievement for the company.

it will open the business to a network of other B Corp organisations, where we can share knowledge, ideas and potentially collaborate on common goals.

I also look forward to be able to support our wider community and partners, and continue to spread the B Corp ethos.
