How to throw a Bridgerton party

Posted by Beth Pickard on

Netflix’s series Bridgerton has certainly caused a stir since it aired on our screens, and now with a brand new season on Netflix the craze for the quintessential British Regency and drama is back.

The show, based on Julia Quinn’s novels, is set in the quintessential Regency era in London, and with its beautiful settings, intricate costumes and drama-filled storylines it’s no wonder it’s so loved. Last year we created our very own Bridgerton tablescape, including the ultimate guide so you can be transported to the beautiful 1800’s and your own charming tea party.

1. Set your tablescape

For those who keep their best china for special occasions, this would be a great time to get this out. We used vintage china tea cups for our tea party, and think tea definitely tastes better in these. Now we know not everyone is going to have fancy china at home, so we have you covered. Our Truly Scrumptious V10 range mixes classical floral design with a modern twist. The range includes a vibrant floral table cover, 3 tier cake stand, plates, napkins, cups and canape flags for cakes, with each featuring the unique, eye-catching design. There is no need to worry about any precious crockery breaking and all elements of this range are full recyclable.

2. Get into character!

The series is filled with most beautiful and regal costumes. There are bright coloured silks, long gloves and top hats in every scene – making us wish we lived in this era. Dress the part for your own Bridgerton tea party with some elegant additions. Put on that silk summer dress or pleated shirt, or add a pair of long gloves, top hat or tie. It could even be as simple as adding a brooch or a feather in your hair. The Bridgerton colour palette features a lot of pastel so the more of this the merrier.

3. Flowers

With each scene of the series we see gloriously preened English gardens, or balls and events filled with bright blooms. For our Bridgerton tea party we collaborated with McQueens who created the most beautiful spring bouquets which added vibrant, luxurious pops of colour to our tablescape. These truly gave the table a sense of opulence, as well as a beautiful aroma of English spring days. We added some delicate flowers in our bud vases, and placed these around the table amongst the tea and cakes. The Bridgerton storyline often includes tea parties for two when the characters are courting, with tables dressed to impress.

4. Candles

Nothing sets the scene for a period drama more than flickering candles. We dotted tealights around our table and used tall dinner candles with our much-loved pink glass candle holders to create a truly ambient setting. Our candle holder range now includes two new pastel shades, which would all work beautifully for a Bridgerton party. Whether you host your tea party inside or outside candles add a romantic touch to the setting, and will delicately illuminate it as the night draws in.

5. Pop the champagne!

We firmly believe that grown up tea parties call for enjoying all your favourite drinks, from freshly brewed tea to that champagne you’ve been saving for a special occasions... and if a fancy Bridgerton inspired tea party is not a special occasion then we don’t know what is.

This month the team attended the immersive Bridgerton experience by Secret Cinema, where they dressed the part in beautiful Regency attire and entered a beautiful ball setting, complete with actors portraying the characters, dances and games. They were truly transported into the series itself which provided ample inspiration for tablescapes, photoshoots and our Truly Scrumptious ranges.

Find our Truly Scrumptious range here, and of course you’ll need to include all of your favourite sweet or savoury high tea treats, and with restrictions easing we hope to be able to enjoy all of our tea party ranges in style with our friends and family.
