How to fold a napkin into a pocket for cutlery

Posted by on

When laying a table for a special occasion, or even 'just because', we enjoy adding in a few little creative details to make whoever we're hosting for feel special. Napkin folding is a great example, adding personalisation to the table while also serving a practical purpose.

With the launch of our new, long format paper napkins, we've put together this simple tutorial on how to fold your napkin into a pocket for holding cutlery. Find step by step instructions below or follow along with our video tutorial on Instagram (linked at the bottom of the page).

TO START

We're setting the table for a pancake day brunch, so our Lemon Print Long Napkins, are a fitting option, and the yellow stripes match perfectly with those on the tablecloth and plates.

The photo on the right shows what you'll make - a simple but charming napkin pocket that holds your cutlery while showing both designs on the napkin - the lemons and the stripes.

STEP 1

Fully unfold the napkin and flip it over so the printed side is facing down. Make sure the lemons are at the top and the stripes at the bottom.

STEP 2

Fold each side into the centre and flip over.

STEP 3

Fold part of the top down so that you can see the lemon slices.

STEP 4

First flip over, then fold the top half down on top of the striped half, along the natural fold of the napkin.

STEP 5

Rotate your napkin so that the stripes are now at the top.

STEP 6

Fold in half along the seam in the centre and you've created your napkin pocket. Now all that's left to do is add in your cutlery and enjoy.
